Subject: Quelling the Waters
I think its a good thing rather than a bad one that this discussion of
whether there should be an archive for this list has generated so many
different issues of law and propriety. Getting a handle on these questions
is what this list is for, after all. But I guess this is the point in the
conversation where the How-To book for being a list owner says I am supposed
to step in and politely ask everyone to be civil. Good...that task is complete.
The Web Ethics Mailing List FAQ has been pretty barren up to this point. No
particular info or questions had come up. But this will give me an
opportunity to add to it, with answers to some of the questions that have
come up in the last couple of days.
My sense is that (as Susan said) the purposes of the list would be furthered
by opening up these discussions to a wider audience. Still, I think that
there are some ways in which this mailing list is private to the members of
the list. So, with the list's permission I am going to think this matter
over for a few days before making a decision. As I mentioned before, input
is very welcome.
