I don't disagree that we should be talking about this, which we are. In
addition, I'm not attempting to argue copyright. Clearly, there is some
level of copyright protection unless it is waived. If memory serves, there
was an extensive debate on Cyberia recently about the copyright in e-mail
messages, so I won't attempt to start a similar debate here.
I was only discussion the "reasonable expectation of privacy" in messages
sent to a mailing list because there were a few people who wrote that an
archive would violate their rights to privacy and chill speech on the list.
I disagree, and my reply discussing that topic followed.
Assuming we get past the copyright issues, I'm putting in a vote for an
archive of the messages to exist someplace, and would even provide the
program needed for producing such an archive.
